Welcome
Welcome to Conch Shell House
Make Yourself
at Home
First and foremost, if you need anything, please call our property managers, Carmen, at 242-554-5678 or Tameica, at 242-421-8456.
They can help if there is an issue with the house, or if you need help with dining suggestions, fishing or boating operators, or anything else you may need to make your stay more enjoyable.
Below you’ll find basic house information and best practices during your stay.
Please see our Islands Contacts page for dining, grocery stores, shops, etc.
Please take advantage of all Harbour Island has to offer.
Enjoy!
The Conch Shell Team
Getting Here
From the North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) or White Crown Aviation, there are usually taxis waiting outside to take people to their destination. Tell the taxi driver you are going to Harbour Island and they will take you to the water taxi. The car taxi is usually $20. Tell the water taxi you are going to the main dock (the Government dock). The water taxi is $5 per person. From the dock, Carmen will meet you and direct you to Conch Shell. If you have arranged for a golf cart to meet you at the dock, take Bay Street (at the end of the dock) to the left. Then turn right on Princess Street. Conch Shell is at the next block at the corner of Princess and King Streets. The island is very small and the people are very friendly. If you have any trouble, the easiest thing to do is ask someone for directions.
Check-In/
Check-Out
Check-In: 4pm
Check-Out: 10am
Please be respectful of the check-in/out times. We often have guests departing and arriving on the same day. Housekeeping will be busy turning over the house and preparing for the next guests. If you are arriving early, or departing late, please feel free to leave your luggage in a designated area.
Occupancy
Please remember the total number of persons allowed in the house at any one time is restricted to the number of persons scheduled and paid for in the reservation. Presence of additional guests will subject Renter to immediate eviction and forfeiture of rent and security deposit. Parties and events are not permitted without the written permission of the Homeowner. This includes small dinner parties and daytime visits from friends. Permission is at the discretion of the Homeowner and Property Manager.
The house sleeps up to 10 guests across five bedrooms. The media room is NOT a bedroom. Please do not allow anyone in your party to sleep on the sofa. It is not setup in a way to easily sanitize or clean after someone sleeps on it.
Air Conditioning
There are separate AC units in each room, with the exception of the pool house. Both bedrooms are operated from the twin bedroom. The fan stays on all the time, just adjust the temperature.
After adjusting units with a remote, please return the remotes to the wall location. Please be considerate of AC usage. The local electricity rates are approximately five times that of the U.S. average. If you are leaving for the day, please turn the AC off. It will cool off quickly upon your return. The house is designed to flow inside and out, but if you choose to leave the doors open, please turn the AC off.
Water
The water is not safe for drinking or cooking, except for the water from the small faucet at the kitchen sink (it looks like a pot filler).
It is on a filtration system. It has a small holding tank, so we have also provided five-gallon jugs in the laundry room. Please let Carmen know if you need it refilled.
Internet
The wifi network is “Conch Shell WiFi”
The password is “Conchshell242”.
Microwave
The microwave is located inside the pantry to the left of the refrigerator.
Laundry
There is a washer and dryer in the house. Because of the water mineral content mentioned above, wash clothes at your own risk; particularly whites.
Please ask the housekeeper for assistance if you have particular items you need washed.
Parking
Please park on the street. Be careful crossing the street, and remember, we drive on the LEFT.
Pool
The pool is only 4 feet deep; please, NO DIVING. Please use plastic or metal drink ware around the pool.
Grill
The gas grill is located to the left side of the pool house. It is brand new as 2023!
Smoking
There is a strict no smoking policy.
You may be charged additional ridiculous and exorbitant cleaning fees if the house smells of smoke. More importantly, there is no full-time fire department, and a fire could cause catastrophic damage on the island.
Security
Crime on the island is extremely low but please don’t tempt fate by leaving valuables unattended or the house unlocked when you’re not home.
Always lock the doors when you leave and when you go to sleep. Please also be conscious of the information you share with strangers. Please feel free to take advantage of the safes provided in the king and queen bedrooms.
Housekeepers
The gardener will come by frequently (except Sunday) to sweep the porch and remove the trash.
The housekeeper will come by daily (except Sunday and holidays) to clean.
As a reminder, a gratuity of 5% will be added to your final bill (if it wasn’t added to the initial payment) as a thank you to our wonderful, hard-working staff.
Our Recs
THE BEACH
We suggest accessing the beach at the former Sip Sip and renting 2 chairs and an umbrella for $25 from Ms. V. She has snacks and beverages for purchase and sand toys for the little ones. There is a similar access at Coral Sands.
BOATING
Visit the swimming pigs, go snorkeling, or just find a secluded beach. Rates range from $250 to $600 per hour.
SUNSETS
Enjoy the sunset at Romora Bay off of Colebrook or at Beyond the Reef on Bay Street. Or just watch from the Conch Pearl upper deck!
ANYTIME
Enjoy a game of dominos with the locals at Sammy’s on Bay Street, or a few cold Kaliks or Sands at JJ’s or the Tiki Hut.
